Greystar has reached a new milestone in its first build-to-rent (BTR) development in Sydney, with the appointment of TQM Design & Construct as the head contractor.
Greystar, a global leader in the investment, development and management of real estate, has reached a new milestone in its first build-to-rent (BTR) development in Sydney, with the appointment of TQM Design & Construct as the head contractor.
Located at 888 Bourke Street in Zetland, the project is planned to deliver 190 high quality rental homes to the city, which is experiencing significant demand for rental housing. The project offers a range of thoughtfully designed studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, catering to a variety of lifestyles and preferences, with modern finishes, spacious layouts and natural light.
Greystar’s purpose built rental housing is centred on a premier resident experience. Residents will have access to a range of amenities, including gyms, lounges, bookable dining rooms, co-working spaces, an on site dog wash and walk park, and courtyards and rooftop spaces.
“Greystar is renowned around the world for its commitment to creating premier living experiences and our first Sydney project will be no exception,” said Matt Woodland, Managing Director of Greystar Australia. “We’re pleased to partner with contractor TQM and Peddle Thorp and Walker Architects to bring beautifully designed rental homes with carefully crafted communal spaces where people want to live, close to transport, cafes and parks like the popular Centennial Park.”
As part of the NSW Government's major urban renewal project, the suburb of Zetland is being revitalised with a focus on creating environmentally conscious and green living spaces with contemporary design. This included constructing Green Square’s 6,200 square metre central park, The Drying Green, and the award winning underground library, Green Square Library.
The project is a desirable location for young professionals seeking a vibrant urban living experience without sacrificing proximity to work and the city’s energetic lifestyle. The project is less than 3.5km from the Sydney CBD and within walking distance of Green Square train station, the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre and retail hub Supa Centre Moore Park.
This construction milestone follows the recent topping out of Greystar’s South Yarra project in August, with its South Melbourne project, The Gladstone, to officially open in November. Greystar has over 2,500 apartments in its Australian pipeline, in construction or planning and development, in support of the Australian Government’s goal of delivering new dwellings for the rental market.
“Boosting housing supply, including longer term rental accommodation is a big priority and challenge for the state and federal government right now,” said Matt Woodland. “Build-to-rent can be part of the solution, however it can be hard to make these projects stack up in Australia, with barriers like high tax rates and difficult planning processes that impact feasibility and capital availability for new supply. We’re committed to working with policymakers and industry stakeholders to help drive innovation and efficiencies around build-to-rent in Australia, similar to what we’ve done in the US and Canada.”
The Zetland development is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
