Charter Hall has been awarded a WiredScore Gold rating for its A-grade commercial asset at Northbank Plaza in Brisbane.
A Charter Hall commercial asset at 69 Ann Street, Brisbane has been recognised as one of the city's top digital workplaces, awarded a WiredScore Gold rating.
The Northbank Plaza office is the first in Charter Hall’s national office portfolio to receive a rating from WiredScore - the global rating scheme for digital connectivity in property.
Originally built in 1976, 69 Ann Street was purchased by Charter Hall in 2008 and underwent a major refurbishment, with further works in 2018 to provide a future-proofed workplace for tenant customers, which included Telstra, State of QLD and Brisbane City Council.

The refurbishment, which included the revitalisation of the lobby area, state of the art end-of-trip facilities and significant works to enhance building performance, has seen the property excel in three of WiredScore’s key focus areas: connectivity, infrastructure and readiness.
The final assessment was made across a scorecard that considers infrastructure, electrical resiliency, wireless capability, and
ease and reliability of connectivity.

Charter Hall’s Queensland Regional Portfolio Manager, Robert Bryce, said that with high levels of digital connectivity usually considered the domain of new developments, Charter Hall was able to unlock the hidden value in the existing asset and further the building’s performance.
“It’s part of our ongoing asset management strategy to deliver a high level of digital connectivity for our tenant customers and we recognise this is now more important than ever," he said.
"We expect continued reliance on virtual meetings and communication tools, even as workforces transition back into physical offices.
“The building at 69 Ann Street is proof that high-quality digital connectivity isn’t exclusively linked to a building's age - it comes down to our commitment to furthering the workplace experience.
"The building is ready for the ‘new normal’ and positioned for future infrastructure expansion to adapt to the changing needs of our tenants."
The building has seven fibre providers who are available to service tenants, including Nextgen, Optus, Pipenetworks, Telstra, Vocus, NBN and Infinity Networks.

The asset also has the ability to expand infrastructure to meet customer needs, readiness to manage fixed and wired connectivity and WIFI connectivity in all common areas.
WiredScore President and Managing Director William Newton said the rating placed 69 Ann Street at the forefront of digital connectivity, on a par with buildings such as the Brunel Building in London, the UK Headquarters of Sony Pictures.
“Since launching WiredScore to Australia last year, we have seen a real desire and dedication from landlords to improve the country’s digital landscape," he said.
"Charter Hall’s 69 Ann Street is a great example of a building that has gone under refurbishment to provide its tenants with great digital connectivity, pushing the boundaries of a building that was built over 40 years ago."
Charter Hall is also set to pursue a WiredScore rating for 150 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne, which is part of its transformative Wesley Place precinct in the CBD.
