Canberra-based developer Geocon will go ahead with its $200 million Canberra city project after receiving approval from the ACT government's National Capital Design Review Panel.
Geocon has been given a green light to develop Canberra’s city centre with work to begin soon on the Tryst, Metropol and Envie apartment buildings.
The approval from ACT government's National Capital Design Review Panel means ground will be broken within the coming weeks on the three buildings, which will bring another 525 new dwellings to the city.
The developer purchased the Reid site at auction for $38.5 million in mid-2017.
Geocon Managing Director Nick Georgalis said there had already been strong demand for the dwellings.
“Over the counter sales for our city development have been nothing short of mind blowing," he said.
“We are about to go below 100 units available across all three buildings before construction has even begun.
"The non-stop, insatiable demand for this product is difficult to comprehend, but it just keeps improving every week.
“We are pleased to have this final step out of the way so we can get on with construction next month, to have people moving in early 2021.
The buildings feature proximity to Glebe Park, the Canberra Centre, Braddon, The ANU, and Light Rail stops.
They have been designed by architectural giants, Fender Katsalidis, whose previous work includes the New Acton precinct and Mona in Tasmania.
Residents will move into the precinct in early 2021. Just over 100 units remain for sale across all three buildings.
