The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has announced the launch of the 2019 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence to recognise truly superior development efforts across the Asia Pacific region in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. 

Submissions opened this month for the awards, which are designed to recognise the full development process of a project.

A jury of ULI full members will evaluate projects and programmes on the extent to which they:

• Achieve marketplace acceptance/financial success.
• Achieve a high standard of excellence in all areas—architecture, design, planning, construction, amenities, economics, and management.
• Demonstrate relevance to the contemporary and future needs of the community in which they are located.
• Have a positive impact in their communities and/or immediate context.
• Exhibit environmental sustainability, stewardship, and resiliency.
• Provide models, lessons, strategies, or techniques that other communities can replicate or adapt.

Since 1979, ULI has honoured outstanding development projects in both the private and public sectors with the ULI Global Awards for Excellence, which is widely recognised as one of the development community's most prestigious awards programmes.

This year, ULI is extending the programme to honour projects on a regional basis, with non-members invited to make submissions. Projects entered for the ULI Asia Pacific Awards are also eligible for entry into the Global Awards for Excellence.

The jury for the awards is drawn from various areas of real estate and development expertise, including finance, architecture, design, land planning and development, public affairs, design, and professional services.

ULI Asia Pacific Chief Executive John Fitzgerald said he expected the entry list to be just as diverse.

“A guiding principle of the Urban Land Institute is that the achievement of excellence in land use practice should be recognised and rewarded,” he said.

“The Asia Pacific region is home to many projects, which push ingenuity and exemplify best practice in land use.

"We look forward to welcoming all types of entries be they office, residential, recreational or private or public programmes.”
